There was a time when you could block advertising from all your iPhone apps, i.e. not just from the browser. This made the iPhone a wonderfully serene thing and saved you several gigabytes of data every month. Alas, the ingenious little apps that made this possible have been banned from the ‘App Store’. That killed ‘Apple News’ for me, which now loads with tons of junk ads no matter what. But sometimes I can’t resist. Above is a screenshot from earlier this week. No junk ads here, though they’re encroaching on you as soon as you read on. So, is this Apple’s idea of witty social commentary, or just their carefully curated news of the day? You decide.
