I suspect that survival rates of cyclists in Central Park have slipped below the 50-percent-threshold. This would explain the city’s heartbreaking attempts to end the anarchy. Well, last time I came by this sign, it was shut off already.
What Typewriter Do You Use – Part 28
It seems to be apology day at the mother ship. First Maps, now this:
To our customers,
At Apple, we strive to make world-class products that deliver the best experience possible to our customers. With the launch of our new iPhone 5 and a Camera app that doesn’t show the image you take, but a cropped version of it, we fell short on this commitment. We are extremely sorry for the frustration this has caused our customers. Our newly hired MBA’s are doing everything they can to make Camera app better.
We launched Camera app for the iPhone five years ago. As time progressed, we wanted to provide our customers with even better picture taking technology. In order to provide basic controls like contrast, sharpness, or noise reduction settings, or useful things like a real-time histogram, all we had to do was think about it for ourselves, or listen to photographers, or look at some of the photo apps in our very own App Store. But we at Apple know better than that!
There are already more than 100 million iOS devices using the newly designed Camera app in iOS 6, with more and more joining us every day. In just over a week, iOS users have taken millions of photos with their new iPhone 5. Some wonder why the images look different compared to what they saw when they took them. This has been a magical experience to them, and we greatly appreciate all of the feedback we have received from you.
While we’re not only not improving Camera app but rather make it worse, you can only hope that iOS app developers will not follow our lead*. Or you can buy an Android phone, or wait for the new Nokia 920.
Everything we do at Apple is aimed at making our products the best in the world. We know that you expect that from us.

*Update: 645 PRO updated their app and did the right thing by showing the entire image. Campera+ did the wrong thing; like Apple, this app only displays a cropped image on the new, longer screen of the iPhone 5. More here.
**Update: ProCamera, the app I’m using, came through with flying colors in its iPhone 5 update. Enough to keep me within iOS? Don’t know yet.
