I took these two on my way back home from the dentist, from the northern edge of the Reservoir in Central Park. Alas, this is what occasionally happens in downtown Manhattan, when the smog self-ignites. A lone police helicopter circled the scene. You never see this on the news, of course, because the city does not want to scare the tourists away. Then, all of a sudden a sharp temperature drop. Or was it all just the Novacaine?

This is the time of the year, at the end of summer, when grocery shopping in Manhattan is at its worst. Was it in another life, or perhaps just a few weeks ago in Europe, that I had these treats for breakfast?

On arrival, it seemed to me that half of the planet’s population descends upon the shores of Southern England during the summer. Or rather, upon some particular spots. Less than two miles off, however, away from the the crowds: nobody! A lone passerby told me that this is what’s great about Cornwall, even at the height of the season. Agreed.
